Question #1:

Is my Blue Heeler to late to train?

Hi, I have a Blue Heeler that will be turning 1 on November 18th. Im afraid that he wont be able to move in with me at my dads house...I got him for xmas last year im 15 and my parents are divorced....because we got a new born and he jumps up on people and is not very obedient. I think part of the reason is he hasn't been fixed. I know blue heelers need constant training physically and mentally but i havent been there with him because i live with my dad so im moving him to my dads so i can train him but im afraid its too late. He is very active, when i walk him down trails in my woods he wants to lead and be the alpha and no matter how hard or much i pool him back he continues to lead. Sometimes i think he would be better just following me. But he has problems with other things like if he sees another dog or kid or person he barks, sometimes will jump on the kids and maybe on the adults. He craves ham so when i do see him on the weekends i teach him obedience and reward him with it. Any suggestions on how to get my dog acting right. Obedient. And good with kids so he doesnt jump on my 1 yr old brother.

Question #3:

my dog is a little skinny?

I have a wonderful siberian husky and I placed him on the raw food diet but his little hip bones are showing. He has always had this problem especially when I had him on just normal dog food (there would be two or more days that he just wouldnt eat it!). I exercise him and make sure he is getting the proper nutrients with every meal (vegi glop and 1.5 pounds of meat with every meal. I feed him twice a day) is this a common problem with husky's due to being so active or is it just mine?

Question #4:

Any tips for training my dog to...?

Weave through poles?

OK, so about 5 months ago I noticed my dog liked jumping through hoola hoops. To pursue this interest, I purchased an agility set. It came with a few jump, a tunnel, and weaving poles.
She was amazing at the jumps, pretty good with the tunnel, but never really got the pole trick.

Then, she was diagnosed with a hip problem. It was pretty bad, so I obviously stopped with the agility. (The agility did not cause the problem, however.)
She is on a medication and for the past 3 days she has been extremely active, boisterous, excited, and really puppy like. She's 6 years old and acting younger than she ever has. At first she would run like crazy, really fast. I didn't like it at first, because usually when she does that the next day her hip is hurting her. But, she seems to be fine for the past 3 days, and I'm really happy about that. :)

During her hip problems, she has good weeks, bad weeks, good days, and bad days. She never really had this good of a week, so I think she could be getting better. The vet said there is no cure, the medicine will only stop the pain.

ANYWAY, I started her back up with agility. NOT jumps, however, as they wouldn't be good for her hip. As long as she's in an active, running mood, I now am doing the tunnel and poles with her. She knows the tunnel well, she runs through without my guidance. The poles however, she has quite a lot of trouble. I've tried walking her through on a leash, but she hates being tugged around like that.
What else can I do to train her better?

Lastly, do you know of any other tricks that she can do that doesn't have any jumping and such in it? Thanks!

P.S She's a 6 year old, 12-15 pound Cockapoo named Misty who knows sit, lie down, stay, roll over, play dead, beg, and shake :)
Thanks for the answer! I will try the licking thing. She follows the treat but misses a weave or goes the wrong way through the poles because I don't think she really understand what she's supposed to do. I thought she was started to get it, but then it went wrong again.
Thanks again :)
Bobbie: Haha of course I know the mixes of my dog. I don't have an 'agility trainer', we just do it for fun!
Cookie: again, I'm just doing this for fun. I space out the poles a lot, so there is no hip "swishing" required. She basically just has to turn her whole body, as if running a bend, rather than her hips. So it's not at all regulation, but still fun for me and my dog.

Question #5:

Evangelical roommates want me to move out, because I no longer attend church.?

5 months ago my friends of more than13 years and I decided it would be economical to live together. I am a single mother of one. They are a married couple with two children. There were a lot of things we had to agree on before moving in, and a lot that I (as a single person) would have to give up. Such as, no alcohol allowed in the house (he's a youth minister) no boyfriends in my bedroom, etc. I understand and respect these wishes because of the example it sets for their children.

However, in the past two months, the church that we all attended together, has underwent some major changes in doctrine and having people sign rule-type covenant/contracts, that I do not agree with. I was raised in a very controlling church and hadn't attended church for years because of reasons such as these. I thought I had found what I was looking for in this church ( I joined last fall) but it turns out it is just like many other churches I've tried over the years
y
My roomates are upset because I am not going to the church anymore, but more than that, that I am unwilling and unready to immeadiately go find another church to belong to. I was told last night that we all need to have a house meeting soon because I am an influence on their children, and being active in church during the week is part of our agreement to live together. I stated that, the church changed and I have to do what's right for me and my son, and was told to find another church. That, how I live my life affects their children.

Mind you, I am not trying to change anything, nor would I ever influence their children away from the church or speak ill of it. My life around the house will be exactly the same with the exact same standards as before. Their children are ages 1 and 4, I hardly think my not going to church is affecting them..but I digress.

I am on the lease just as much as they are, but I feel there can be no compromise and they will ask me to leave. I cannot afford the house on my own, and they most likely will get another roomate. I know they can't legally kick me out, but to make life more bearable for all involved I will leave. However, I know that will effectively put a nail in the coffin of our friendship.

Any thoughts, advice, or talking points that I might bring up?

Thanks for reading

Question #6:

Rats: I have some questions?

I have some questions that I can't seem to answer through research. Here's the basics: I'm planning on getting two female rats because I don't want males to fight, and considering females are more active, they seem like a nice choice (and they don't pee as much!). I'm looking into breeders, cages, ect. but I'm not sure about everything and I would like to be completely researched out before I contact a breeder.

1. Food dish? (I need one that will attach to the side of the cage so that the rats don't go and tip it over, but I can't find anything. Where did you get yours?)

2. Diet? (I've looked this up, but I want to get some suggestions from actual rat owners before I make any major desicions.)

3. Cage? (So far, I've only found one website and even thats a little iffy. I know that the cage needs to be metal bottomed, and I know it needs to be two sq feet per rat, but there are a lot of diverse cages out there. ALSO: most of the cages I've found have more than one level, but these upper levels all have metal bars as a floor. I know this isn't good for rat feet; is there a way I could put some sort of cusion, or is there a better rat cage I just haven't found yet?)

4. Vet? (Some say you need to have money saved away, some say rats are healthy. I know they're prone to tumors, and that there are a lot of foods that can be toxic, but are there any other common illnesses that I should look out for, and money wise, how much does it cost yearly for these vet checks?)

5. Litter Pan? (There are many differant ways to litter train your rat out there. What do you think is the best technique.)

Toys/Enrichment: I want to make my rats as happy as possible. Do you have any good toy ideas? Unique techniques to keep your rats busy?

7. TRAINING: I can honestly say, I know 0 about rat training. I've gotten a few good tips, but there are some things I would like to train MY rats and I have no idea how.

Coming to a certain ledge when you want to take them out?

NOT peeing on you? (can you do this?)

(okay, like I said, I'm new to this training thing, so I don't really know the kinds of things you'd be able to teach to a rat. Can you tell me about the tricks you've taught YOUR rats and how?)

Thank you!
ps. About the litter pan, I forgot to mention this before but I cannot find a single one online. Any suggestions?

Question #7:

Why are we so concerned with over medicating our children?

Why is it when "little billy" has a problem then our solution is to give him a pill?
Case in point:
Problem:. A child is hyper active.
Solution:Give them Ritalin (or whatever else) for A.D.D.

I mean we shouldn't be over medicating our children. When I was a child I was spastic but never was once diagnosed with A.D.D. and had perfectly fine life with out meds. I only took over the counter meds for a cold or flu but that was on rare occasions. I mostly just slept it off and at chicken soup. I ran around outside barefoot and ate candy that (at the time was unaware) was 2 years old. I have been exposed to germs and bacteria and am the healthiest person I know. Why are we trying to shelter our kids from these EVIL germs? Do you not realize but medicating these kids for everything and using antibacterial, soap and hand sanitizers that your completely screwing up there immune system. We have to be exposed to these things so our bodies can become immune! Other wise they will become dependent on these medications. Get a clue people. Seriously!!
brittney: Don't send me to a site where I need to download stupid sh it! I am on a limit internet plan where i only have 5g a month. not gonna wast my mb on crap!

Question #8:

Only Republicans can be racists?

Then explain this: Click Here (more importantly watch the last half, as that's where it really starts to get interesting)

How is this not racist? More importantly, how is this not VIOLENTLY racist? Every time I mention that there is even a possibility of white racism the liberals deny it or act like it is somehow justified. Every time I bring up the Black Panthers they act like they are peace-loving. Please! I've seen more peace in an active volcano. You're so quick to pull the racist card on every issue (even the oil spill) but somehow this is NOT racist? Hmmm...
Nope I never said Republicans=white. The title is only Republicans can be racists, because liberals constantly claim our agenda is "racist," no matter what the issue is. White hate is a different topic. This has everything to do with politics.
I'll also say that I completely agree there are Republican racists. I personally do not know any. I know a few who are anti-Muslim, instead of just against terrorism. I don't agree with that either. However, reading most of the comments on YA, many liberals claim that the Republican Party is racist, or the Tea Party is racist, or all white people are racist. It's hypocritical. The Democrats also have racists, and they are usually against whites. I have had people flat out tell me that the New Black Panther Party is peaceful. This is pure evidence they are not.

Question #9:

Fat issues, please help?

How do you get rid of medium sized love handles?? It's just a half handful of fat but it's noticeable. I ride my bike A LOT, I've been active all my life, lots and lots of sports, but my diet is odd.

Question #12:

I live in ontario and I am looking into taking kickboxing lessons to become more active but am nervous about the price. Im not too worried about getting private lessons as I wouldn't mind being in a group. Question #13:

I'm gay, how do I ask someone I meet if they're gay too?

I met a great guy in my residence's coffee shop today. He was approachable and funny, and seemed to have a similar sense of humor and tastes in movies & music. He's an incessant (yet NOT boring) talker & I'm an active listener. One top of all this, he's really cute too.

One problem: I'm not sure if he's gay. He sort of looks like it, but since I don't look gay at all, I'm not too confident about my gaydar. That, and I've only been openly gay for a few days now.

I guess my main question is this: how do I ask him if he is gay without alienating him if he's not. If he's not, I'd like to stay friends with him, but if he is, I'd like to get more involved with him before someone else gets to him (assuming he would even be open about it).

Thanks for any and all helpful responses!

p.s. If it helps, I already outed myself to him during our long conversation (we started talking about the Scott Pilgrim movie, I mentioned that Wallace Wells was my favorite character & I want to be him, he asked if it was because of the personality or the homosexuality, I said I've already got the homosexuality, now I just need the personality).

Question #15:

How long will I be tired after having mono?

I guess I got it around a month ago, in the beginning of August, but I was really tired during July and lost my appetite this whole summer. Well, they say symptoms go away about 4 weeks after they appear- so I may have had it for over a month-even though the doctor said I've had it about a month-but I've already been building up anti-bodies to it. I'm 17 and physically active, and very healthy. I don't have diabetes, allergies, or any other disabilities, if that helps. They said it was a mild case. I never had any other symptoms except being tired and losing an appetite. I do have depression so I thought it was because of that. So, how long do you think I'll still be tired?
How long is a while?

Question #16:

Dog foods to use/avoid?

Well, Im getting a puppy in 2 weeks, and know a lot of dogs, although I (and no one) can know EVERYTHING about dogs.

When I have been reading up, active dogs (I am getting a goldendoodle) are more tend to getting hip dysplacia, and they said to get the dog some adult food since some foods have different minerals and some say that adult food slows down growth when there a puppy. It's personality is active and he loves to cuddle. But I want to make sure he is healthy. Are there any dog foods I should feed him and not feed him?

Thanks!

Question #18:

How can my chihuahua get skinnier?

well she is chubby/fat and we walk her 3 times a day, feed her small portions of food, and we feed her a small piece of chicken cut up in small pieces because she won't eat real dog food, or wet dog food. we are not getting her diet food because it lacks nutrition. she is very active, and her best friend is a chihuahua too, but she is no where near as active as her, and she is wayyyyyy skinnier!!! why is this? and how can i get my fat chihuahua skinny?

p.s. she has no cookies, and the chicken is not raw, its fully cooked!!! and we gave her chicken BECAUSE she wont eat her real food!!!!! WE GAVE HER CHICKEN AFTER SHE STOPPED EATING HER REAL FOOD!!! she has never had treats, and the chicken has nothing to do with the food!!! here's the order of her food cycle, she had real dog food but stopped eating it, then we tried wet food mixed with dry, she only licked the wet dog food, and the vet said it is full of fat, so they recommended plain chicken. DON'T RECOMMEND GOING TO THE VET the vet said "exercises her more" and we have been doing that, but it's not helping!
diet pills are HORRIBLE for dogs, and ceffiene pill? thats supposed to do what?
yes its lean chicken
there is no possible way she can be pregnant, she has never ever ever seen a boy dog in her life (except the first six weeks of her life) she is now 2!!

AS I SAID SHE IS ACTIVE!!! SHE CHASES BALLS, AND PLAYS WITH TOYS, CHEWS BONES
I WANT TO FUCKING COME AND FUCKING KILL ALL OF YOU WITH MY BARE HANDS BECAUSE YALL SAID EVERYTHING I DIDNT WANT YALL TO SAY
@karen thank you!! and we walk her 30 mins 3 times a day, and we feed her a bit less than 3/4 per day, and we gradually decrease it (untill it gets to a bit more than half a cup)
@Kelsey the closest vet is 3 hours away (that treats chihuahuas) so please stop commenting on my questions and leave me alone because you of course, have nothing to say :)
@NekoMimiMode i sent you an email saying alot (nicely)
store bought chicken has things in it that keep humans from getting deises and they may give my dogs dieses because they are very very very small

Question #20:

Why has my parents' cat gained so much weight so rapidly?

Before I got married out family cat Smokey (he's 5 years old) was just a normal build and a slim active looking cat and I last saw him about 3 weeks ago when I was up at their house for dinner and he just looked his usual selfy but last night I was at their house and couldn't believe how big he'd got. My mum says he doesn't eat much of the wet food they give him but she knows the neighbour feeds him. Is this the problem or could something be wrong? What could the neighbour possibly be feeding him to get him this big? His rapid weight gain was what surprised me the most, I almost didn't recognise him at first!
Hey Olivia, yeah I agree, cats should only be fed cat food cos I believe anything else could lead to weight gain and maybe diabetes etc. The neighbour who's feeding him doesn't have a cat so as its unlikely she'll be feeding him cat food I'm guessing she's giving him scraps like chicken and sausages etc which is bad. Yeah he was neutered when we first got him and he's lived outdoors for a few years now. He doesn't have toys or anything since he's about 5 so I didn't think he'd be interested in playing with toys but I'll say to my parents to keep him active and hopefully he'll lose some weight. Otherwise he may have to see the doctor incase its a thyroid problem.
